How Do I Get a Build-a-Queer Kit?

There are 3 easy steps to gettings your very own Build-a-Queer kit.

Step 1: Create or Log in to your Account
To secure your kit, you must have an account with us.

  • If you don’t have an account, Create Your Account Here. Add your shipping details so you don't have to on the day of the restock (this saves a lot of time especially since items sell out fast).

Step 2: Get Early Access (BIPOC and Disability)

Are you BIPOC or someone with a disability? You may qualify for early access to our kit restock before they open to the general public. Early access gives you a chance to shop before others.

  • Complete the Early Access Form to apply for an early access code/password.
  • How It Works: The website will be password-locked 30 minutes before each restock. Early access recipients will receive a code to enter the site and shop early.
  • Important: Early access is not guaranteed. Completing the form provides a chance to receive a code, but kits are still first-come, first-served even with early access.

Note: You must still log in to your account to check out your kit.

Step 3: Build Your Kit

On the day of the restock, head over to our kit builder to add your desired items to your cart. You'll need to login to your account check out, so it's a good idea to do this before hand.

Reminder: Kits sell out quickly. Be ready to act as soon as the restock begins.

Important: You may only order one kit per year. If you've already received a kit within the past year, your order will be canceled.

FAQs: Quick Answers to Common Questions

Are they really free? How?

Yes! Build-a-Queer Kits are completely free because gender-affirming care is a basic need, not a luxury. You will never be asked for payment, no card is needed to apply or receive a kit, and shipping is free. These are available in all 50 States and territories (including Guam, Puerto Rico, etc.)

Our founder started this program after struggling to access gender-affirming items themselves. Like so many trans gender and questioning folks, they faced financial barriers, lack of access, and systemic gatekeeping that made something as simple as a binder or packer feel impossible to get. This program was created so no one else has to go through that alone.

We believe that everyone deserves access to the resources they need to feel like themselves, regardless of income. Through grants, donations, and community support, we are able to offer these kits at no cost. While we can’t guarantee a kit for everyone each cycle, we remain committed to making gender-affirming care more accessible for all.

How is my Build-a-Queer Kit shipped?

Kits are shipped through USPS Ground and include a tracking number, which you will receive by email once your order has been processed.

We do our best to package kits discreetly while ensuring they arrive safely. However, if you have specific concerns about privacy or delivery, we encourage you to provide any necessary accommodations when applying.

Shipping is completely free, and you will never be asked for payment at any stage of the process.

How many items can I get in my Build-a-Queer Kit?

Item Limit Policy

You are eligible to receive up to 4 items total (maximum), with a limit of one item per category. Variations in size, color, or style do not qualify as separate items.

Examples:

  • One binder (half or full length, not both)
  • One gaff (any style, one total)
  • One packer (any color, one total)

Optional Health Bundle: Participants may also request one health bundle if needed. This does not count toward the 4-item maximum.

Orders that aim to exceed these limits will be canceled to ensure fairness and equitable distribution.

What’s Included in the Kits?

A variety of gender-affirming items like chest binders, breast forms, packing underwear, makeup bundles, and health bundles. View all of our item offerings here.

What is Early Access?

Eligible BIPOC individuals and people with disabilities can apply for a chance to shop before general access opens. If selected, you’ll receive a code/password to enter the site 30 minutes before restock begins. You can apply for early access here.

Does Early Access Guarantee a Kit?

No. Early access provides a head start, but kits are still first-come, first-served

When can I order another Build-a-Queer kit?

Order Cooldown Period

You can only get one kit per year. This means you have to wait 12 months from the date of your last order before requesting again.

  • For example, if you ordered on April 26, 2024, you'll be eligible again starting April 26, 2025.

You can only place a new order once your eligibility date has passed, even if it doesn't line up with a restock. In that case, you'll need to wait until the next restock after your eligibility date.

If you're not sure when you last ordered, check your confirmation email or account history. This helps keep the program fair and makes sure more people can access kits

Important: Trying to get around the wait by making another account will be noticed and could result in being barred from receiving kits or other services. We can tell, so please don't do it.

What Happens if I Miss Out?

Don’t worry! Sign up for our newsletter to stay updated on future restocks and opportunities. We restock once a quarter.

Where do you ship? Is this offered internationally?

No. We currently only serve the United States and all its territories, including Puerto Rico, Guam, etc.

We hope to expand internationally in the future.

Do you ship APO/FPO?

Yes, however bear in mind that it is subject to international shipping restrictions/rules, and we'll have to fill out a customs form to get it to you.

If your address is an APO/FPO/DPO , it must have your recipient's name, rank, and unit, and the APO/FPO/DPO address with the 9-digit ZIP Code™. To prevent mail from entering foreign mail networks, do not include city or country names in APO/FPO/DPO shipping addresses.

Do you offer Build-a-Queer kits for groups or organizations?

As a small nonprofit, we not currently have the capacity and resources to do so. However, we do offer private, wholesale pricing (seriously, it's super cheap) on our items to purchase in bulk. If your organization, club, or community space is interested, email baqk@queertransproject.org.
