Jacksonville, FL - This week, the U.S. President signed an executive order banning gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth, cutting federal support for providers, and attempting to strip individuals of their right to challenge these attacks in court. This sweeping policy seeks to erase trans people, punish those who support them, and make critical care nearly impossible to access.
But in Jacksonville, Florida, The Queer Trans Project (QTP) is doing what it has always done: ensuring trans people get the resources they need, no matter what.
The Queer Trans Project’s free Build-a-Queer Kits provide gender-affirming items—including binders, packers, breast forms, and tucking garments—to trans people nationwide. These kits are shipped across all 50 states and U.S. territories, ensuring access for those who need it most, regardless of their location or financial situation.
The organization also runs a free Flight Assistance Program, in partnership with Elevated Access, covering transportation for trans individuals who need to travel for gender-affirming care. Whether it’s crossing state lines to access a safe provider or escaping a hostile environment, these flights ensure that medical care remains within reach.
With attacks escalating, The Queer Trans Project is doubling its efforts in 2025. More kits, more flights, and an even stronger commitment to ensuring trans people receive the care they need.
“To every trans person reading this: You are not alone. You are not a problem to be solved. You are not broken. And you are not going anywhere.” said Cielo, Executive Director of The Queer Trans Project. “The government may try to take away our rights, but they will never take away our existence.”
Florida has already been a testing ground for the kind of attacks now being pushed nationwide. The state has seen restrictive anti-trans laws, medical bans, and efforts to criminalize gender-affirming care. The Queer Trans Project has been on the frontlines of this fight, preparing for what the rest of the country is now facing. While politicians attempt to legislate trans people out of existence, QTP is building a future where they can thrive.
“The Queer Trans Project is committed to ensuring trans people—especially trans youth—get the support, care, and resources they need, no matter what barriers are put in place,” Cielo added. “We are still here, and our work does not ever stop. We always have and we always will.”
