Our Story
From a Bedroom Closet to a National Lifeline
What began as a grassroots effort in a small apartment has grown into a vital support system for the transgender community. Since 2021, The Queer Trans Project has distributed over $1 million in gender-affirming items to individuals across all 50 states and U.S. territories.
From a two-bedroom apartment in Jacksonville, Florida, armed with a $500 grant and an unwavering vision, Cielo founded The Queer Trans Project. The mission was simple yet radical: provide gender-affirming resources to everyone, regardless of age, location, identity, or ability to pay.
No restrictions. No judgment. No barriers.

Direct Impact: The Build-A-Queer Kit
Our signature Build-A-Queer Kits—fully customizable care packages containing binders, packers, makeup, and pride merchandise—reach those who need them most. Beyond the kits, we’ve covered over 125,000 miles in free flights for gender-affirming care through our partnership with Elevated Access.
Our Commitment ot Equity
To address systemic barriers, we provide BIPOC and disabled individuals with priority early access to all kit distributions, ensuring support reaches those most marginalized within our community first.
We are proudly Black-led and trans-led because we believe in authentic representation: we look like the people we serve. Our founder’s lived experience grounds every program we create, every partnership we forge, and every decision we make.
Our work is amplified by partners who share our values, including Lush Cosmetics, GC2B, Stonewall Sports, and national organizations like The Trevor Project.

Today, as anti-trans legislation spreads, our work has never been more urgent. We refuse to be intimidated. We refuse to be erased. Instead, we show up louder, love harder, and build broader networks of care.
The Queer Trans Project exists because every trans person deserves to live with dignity, safety, and joy.
